Instagram now with video

Instagrammers of the world rejoice, you can now record videos to go along with your pictures of your dog sunbathing and that perfect eggs benedict. The announcement came from Instagram founder Kevin Systrom at the Menlo Park offices of Facebook and according to him it’s not just video sharing like Vine it’s “video done right on mobile.” The feature rolled out in an update last night to the 130 million monthly Instagram users who to date have shared over 16 million photos on the service.

Instagram will now let users select video as an option in the creation screen and will let you take a video of between 3 and 15 seconds long to post to the social network and unlike Vine the videos don’t loop. Segments of the video can be deleted and redone to make the creation process more user friendly than Vine’s shoot right or fail mechanic. Users can then apply one of 13 filters to the video (it is Instagram afterall) and then upload it to the Instagram servers.

According to Systrom, Instagram worked with  “the world’s leading video scientists,” to create Cinema, a video stabilisation tool that will allow Instagrammers to feel the same sense of professionalism from their videos as they do from their photos.

Instagram is available for both iPhone and Android
