SA dating scene goes social with Weaver

Online dating in South Africa has a stigma attached, and for good reason: girls don’t want to meet creepy guys who go on to harass them well after the first date hasn’t gone all that well.

Realising this, and taking into account their own busy work schedules, Kiril Dobrev and Andrew Lynch came up with the concept of Weaver, a new way for people to use online dating in South Africa. Rather than getting to know an anonymous stranger and showing up for a drink with them, Weaver encourages a more social setting. Guys and girls need to recruit two of their friends, each, and from there Weaver will match up two groups based on algorithms that take information from their Facebook profiles.

According to Weaver, all the two groups have to do is show up and have their drinks – with the cost of the first round covered by the R79-per-head charge for each match-up the service performs.

According to Lynch, ““Weaver takes care of everything from vetting applicants, matching you with the right person, to making a reservation at a cool nearby location and paying for the first round of drinks. We literally enable you to meet cool people at the push of a button.”
