Apple applies for ‘iWatch’ trademark in Japan

It has long been rumoured that Apple intends to get into the wearable computing market with a watch and Bloomberg is now reporting that Apple Inc has filed for the “iWatch” trademark in Japan sparking speculation that the device could be ready for an imminent announcement. If Apple follows speculation and rumour then the iWatch will be a second screen companion to the iPhone allowing users to see incoming calls or read emails without having to reach into their pockets for their iPhones. Rival technology companies have also been rumoured to be getting into the wearables game including Japan’s Sony recently announced the second generation of its SmartWatch which is compatible with Android handsets would be available from September this year.

Apple’s shares firmed by nearly a percent in trading after the announcement perhaps showing that the market has hope that the new wearables range has the potential to drive the earnings of the Cupertino based juggernaut for the foreseeable future.
