Motorola launches US ad campaign for patriotic smartphone

According to the Advertising Age website, today will see Motorola Mobile launch a patriotic ad campaign teasing the unveiling of its latest smartphone, the Moto X, in the US market.

The phone has been conceived, designed and assembled entirely in the USA, a move that is clearly designed to appeal to patriotic Americans, a shrewd strategy on the eve of one of the country’s most celebrated public holidays, Independence Day.

The ad copy also says that the Moto X is “The first smartphone that you can design yourself”, although it’s unclear at this point what sort of customisations people will be able to choose, and whether they will be purely cosmetic or hardware-level tweaks.

The new phone announcement comes hot on the heels of Motorola’s logo redesign, which incorporates more colour to reflect Google’s ownership of the brand.

Of course, at this early stage we haven’t heard anything about the Moto X coming to South Africa, or even what it will be called here given Motorola’s tendency to give their phones different names in different regions.
