First Look: Sir, You Are Being Hunted

Like PC games? Like robot scarecrows? Like shotguns? Good, because Big Robot’s Sir, You Are Being Hunted has been made available for download via Humble Bundle and Steam, and it’ll satisfy all three of those urges simultaneously.

It’s being billed as an early alpha build of the game, but it’s available for all, and it’s well worth checking out for the $20 fee it’ll cost you. It’s also quite polished – there’s no show stopping bugs so far, and I’m playing it on Linux.

Manage your expectations, though. Sir is a very clever game developed by a team of two and a half people, which sets you out looking for pieces of steaming rock across a series of islands, each one of which is procedurally generated based on the English countryside. Pyschotic robots with red eyes and shotguns will try to stop you, all the while talking in an oh-so-English manner.

While it feels a bit like a STALKER sort of open world initially, it’s actually something very different, in which all out assault on the robots is impossible, and you’ll need to be stealthy and good with traps to steal the rocks from under their big metal noses. It’s stylised, understated and lovely.

Big disclaimer though – I may be biased. I used to work with two of the people who made it back when I was on PC Gamer and PCFormat, namely James Carey and Jim Rossignol (who’s best known for Rock, Paper, Shotgun). So best you go play it and make up your own minds, eh?
