Two new iPhones on the way, according to suppliers

According to sources at the Wall Street Journal, one of Apple’s iPhone-building partners, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, has been asked to supply two iPhones.

This ties in nicely with rumours that the Cupertino-based company is planning to introduce two new iPhones at an event this September. While an upgraded iPhone, called the iPhone 5S, is par for the course, it’s the other phone that will probably be more interesting.

Apple currently only has one major phone for consumers to choose from: the iPhone 5. But the second  phone it’s rumoured to introduce could be called an iPhone 5C, which market sources say will retail for less than the flagship device, while swapping the iPhone 5’s aluminium parts for polycarbonate panels in different colours – hence the C. The specifications for the supposed 5C haven’t been revealed, but our money would be on it using existing iPhone 5 parts.

A cheaper iPhone could be just what’s needed to stave off the Android onslaught, especially for people who want the latest iPhone. Settling for last-year’s model when they can’t afford the new one simply doesn’t cut it, for some.

As this is Apple we’re talking about, we’ll only really know for sure when Tim Cook and co are out on stage showing off the new products to the world, this September.
