Samsung’s Smart Trainer app can help you be a better athlete

The app was launched yesterday at the beautiful Copper Leaf Golf Estate in Johannesburg with the help of sporting celebrities from a wide range of sporting disciplines. Chief among them was Victor Matfield, the former Blue Bull and Springbok lock, who enthusiastically endorsed the app as being a fantastic way for youngsters to learn the techniques that the pros have used in their own success.

The idea behind the app is simple: it provides training videos that show people how to train, hosted by well-known professional South African athletes who demonstrate the training techniques they’ve employed in their own careers. Each video is shot in High Definition, and contains more than just demonstrations of techniques, it also explains exactly what is happening and shares tips and tricks on how to replicate what you’re seeing.

You can watch stars like Mark Fish, AB de Villiers, Ernie Els, Morné Morkel and Morné Steyn doing what they do best, while delivering tips on exactly what they are doing, and how. You can improve your golf swing, learn to kick more accurately and much more, just by watching the pros.

As the app is very video-laden, you might want to download the videos you’re most interested in over a Wi-Fi network rather than by using your mobile data. I was told by a Samsung rep at the event that once the videos are downloaded, they are on your phone for good so you only really need to download them all once.

The app is free to all owners of Samsung smartphones and tablets, and is available on the Google Play Store.
