LG announces the G Pad 8.3 Tablet [UPDATE] Not for SA, yet

Sitting comfortably between the iPad Mini and the full size iPad, the 8.3 inch Full HD display (1920 x 1200 pixels/273 ppi) of the LG G Pad puts it in direct competition with arch Korean rival Samsung’s Note 8.0 tablet. The tablet which augments LG’s already growing catalogue of ‘G’ series smartphones shares much of its DNA with a device we recently reviewed, the Optimus G Pro. They have the same Snapdragon 600 SoC along with 2GB of RAM and should therefore have similar benchmark scores which will place it in the upper echelons of Android devices available today. Along with a massive 4600 mAh battery which should keep it chugging along, the increased screen real estate allows the G Pad 8.3 to have 3 apps running on screen at once with QSlide. Something LG are calling KnockOn is essentially a feature borrowed from Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z is where a user can double tap the screen in standby mode to wake the tablet.

[UPDATE]

LG South Africa had this to say about the G Pad 8.3

“LG SA will unfortunately not be bringing the wifi version only to SA. Because, we have found that our market demand is mostly for 3G, which is the mobile version. LGeSA are planning to look at bringing this version a
little later, but no confirmed timing.”
