Mega Man creator using Kickstarter to fund ‘Sequel’

Mega Man was one of the titles that I remember most from my childhood. The side scrolling platformer helped shape my young gaming mind into what it is today. Creator of Mega Man , Keiji Inafune, is using Kickstarter to fund what is essentially an updated version of the classic side scroller, ‘Mighty No.9‘ is looking for $900 000 in 30 days to get the game made. At the time of writing, and within the first 24 hours of the campaign starting, they had already raised over $820 000 all but ensuring that the project will be funded.

Mighty No 9As with previous Mega Man games, Mighty No. 9 will allow you to collect abilities and weapons from your defeated foes and transform yourself into a new improved weapon to sow more destruction upon the enemy. Unlike Mega Man though, it won’t just be bosses that provide you with power up and mods, even regular minions will give you the opportunity to increase your power. The game is being developed for PC and will be distributed through Steam sometime in late 2015 according to the Kickstarter page.

Inafune even has a plan for when the project inevitably gets funded with the addition of stretch goals that run all the way to $2.5 million at which point the team will port the title to Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U.
