The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be coming to South Africa sometime this month and while we wait for our review unit to arrive to give you an idea of whether it will be worth the R4 599 asking price, Samsung is already posting up ads for the companion device. Samsung has definitely hit the nail on the head with the advertising targeting geek culture that has for years been obsessed over a smartwatch. From Kirk’s wrist-communicator to Dick Tracy’s watch radio and talking to Kit, there is a large group of consumers who will be intrigued in the Galaxy Gear simply through nostalgia alone.

The Gear is hamstrung at the moment in that it only works with the Galaxy Note 3, although Samsung is promising to update the Galaxy S3, S4 as well as the previous generation Note 2 to enable compatibility before year end.
