Planning on getting a shiny new PlayStation 4 this festive season? Well, you better get your pre-order in now, or miss out until possibly the end of January, 2014.

htxt.africa has learned that some local stores have already reached their pre-order unit allocation for the first shipment of PS4 consoles. Even though you can go ahead and place a pre-order for a PS4, you won’t get it with the first wave of consoles that arrives in time for the December launch.

As with any launch for a highly-anticipated product, stocks will be tight in the first few months. Ster Kinekor Entertainment (SKE) , the authorised South African distributor for the PlayStation brand, announced in the week before rAge that the local PS4 launch date has shifted back by one week. It was originally going to hit shelves on the 6th of December, but eager gamers will now have to wait until the 13th of December – a date that could prove to be an unlucky Friday for anybody who hasn’t pre-ordered a console.

There is good news, though. SKE says that the second wave of consoles will arrive in January 2014, though a more specific date was unavailable at the time of writing. So, if you don’t get a console in December, just hang onto your money and you won’t have to wait too long to get one a few weeks later.
