Samsung Galaxy S4 Active doesn’t get the extra ADH warranty

Yesterday while putting together the review for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active we stumbled across a rather interesting piece of news. The S4 Active is not covered by Samsung’s ADH (Accidental Damage from Handling) warranty. The warranty which covers 2 screen breakage or water damage repairs was announced for the Galaxy S4 at launch and has since been upgraded to the ADH Premium warranty for the Galaxy Note 3 is only available to owners of the original Galaxy S4 and none of the variants that have since been announced.

Samsung states on the registration page that “more Samsung Smart Devices will follow and will be eligible for the ADH customer benefit in future” and we can’t help but wonder why the warranty is available for the S4 which has a recommended retail price of R8499 but not for the S4 Active with its price of R8999 [UPDATE Samsung South Africa has confirmed that both devices have an RRP of R8 499]. More to the point, the S4 Active is waterproof, which negates the need to protect against water damage with the ADH warranty lowering the risk for Samsung to offer it  to S4 Active owners. Clearly Samsung needs to give more information on why certain premium devices qualify and others don’t because we’re stumped.
