Dash lets you teach yourself how to make websites and virtual robots

The geniuses over at General Assembly have a motto: Transforming thinkers into creators.

Their newest tool, Dash, definitely lives up to that. It’s an online, interactive tutorial that teaches you HTML 5 and CSS 3. If those are just complicated acronyms then all you need to know is that those are the two things you need to know about if you intend on building your own websites.

Using Dash, you can get a hang of both the basic and advanced features of those cutting-edge web technologies, using the tool’s interactive slides and web-based coding tool. Each slide clearly explains what you’ll be doing and what the effect is, and the coding tool lets you write code and see the page being created in real time.

While it starts off teaching you how to make a really slick-looking web page, the tasks eventually lead to you coding an on-screen robot in CSS. Is there a better way to spend a Friday afternoon? Probably, but you won’t have quite the same sense of achievement.
