Android 4.4 rollout starts with the Nexus 7 Wi-Fi today

The latest version of Android has been announced and KitKat brings with it a slew of performance enhancements. The big question for every Android device owner though is “When do I get this magical new version of Android?” The answer if you are a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 owner with a Wi-Fi only model is today. The @Android Twitter account greeted us with the happy news this morning.

This is still the distinct advantage of owning a Nexus device which sees Android updates within the first few weeks of the release of a new operating system from Google. Those of you who have a 3G version of the Nexus 7 or have a Nexus 4 smartphone can take comfort in the fact that Google has said the updates for those devices will be coming shortly.

The only people who can feel hard done by are those who bought the Samsung made Galaxy Nexus which was released in 2011 and will not be getting the update officially from Google. The dual-core and 1GB of RAM powering the Galaxy Nexus are both more than adequate to run Android 4.4 which has been tailored to devices with as little as 512MB of RAM.
