What to expect from Xbox One, PS4 voice controls

Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles can be worked using just voice commands that are picked up by the microphones built into each console’s camera accessory, as well as any microphones that work with the various headsets available for both.

The question is, what is the best way to go about it and what can gamers expect from using words to control their consoles? To help with that, the UK-based PlayStation Access YouTube channel has made a video showing how to do it with a PlayStation 4, and Microsoft has published a “cheat sheet” of all the commands the Xbox understands. The general rule for the Xbox One is that any word that appears in green on the Xbox One’s dashboard should do something when spoken aloud.

Hopefully, these measures will make it easier – and less frustrating – to get the consoles to respond to verbal instructions by tempering user expectations. Of course, for us in the Rainbow Nation there’s the added complication of our various accents that might make things a little more difficult, but that remains to be seen as we’ve not played with either console yet.
