WPP is not only the largest corporate communications company in the world its also no stranger to Africa with revenues of R7 billion and over 27 000 employees in 2012. The exciting news this morning is that local communications company Cerebra has sold a majority stake in its business to WPP to help them in the “roll out of social media and social business solutions across the African continent.” WPP’s acquisition of Cerebra follows its belief that 40-45% of its revenue will come from digital in the next five years an area which Cerebra has excelled.

Cerebra is most well known for managing the social media communities of Vodacom, including its Facebook and Twitter accounts, for which they received the CEO Award for Business Partner of the Year at the Vodacom CEO Awards at Vodaworld this month. The award was backed up by the impressive showing in the international Social Brands 100 report where Vodacom was the only African brand to be be featured in the report coming second overall in the telecommunications category. Vodacom is not the only big-name client that Cerebra manages with Nedbank, Hollard, Absa, and Autopage also trusting their digital well being to the Fourways based company.
