Adobe adds 3D printing tools to Photoshop

Design specialists, Adobe are the latest to jump on the 3D printing bandwagon with a major update to Photoshop, unveiled today, that now lets you design and export 3D models from scratch or make changes to existing 3D models using Photoshop tools.

“Before today there was a gap between the content produced by 3D modelling tools and what 3D printers need in order to deliver high quality results. Now, by simply clicking ‘Print’ in Photoshop CC, creatives can bring 3D designs to the physical world,” said Winston Hendrickson, vice president products, Creative Media Solutions, Adobe in a statement to the press.

Designs can be printed using locally connected 3D printers or via built-in access to popular online 3D print services. Adobe has also partnered with 3D printer makers, MakerBot and online 3D printing marketplace and community, Shapeways for integrated support for both directly within Photoshop CC.

You can now also directly upload their 3D models to Sketchfab, a web service that allows users to publish and display interactive 3D models, and embed them in their Behance profile using Sketchfab’s interactive 3D viewer.

An additional new feature called Perspective Warp, will now let you see your designs from different viewpoints in 3D, whereas traditionally, Photoshop only gave a 2D view.
