Weekend Paper EFF’s up political party survey

According to The Star’s weekend edition, The Saturday Star, the Julius Malema’s EFF is more popular on social media than any other party in South Africa.

The paper published a feature on South African political leaders and parties with the most followers on Twitter. The feature is pretty straight forward and accurate, except for one major detail in the paper’s reporting: the EFF account that it’s listed is not the Economic Freedom Fighters, but the US-based digital rights organisation, the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

We’re wondering how on earth The Saturday Star could’ve missed that? Sure, Julius Malema’s party and the US-based organisation share the same acronym, and have forthright views on what to do with the rich and powerful who abuse their positions to subjugate others, but that’s where the similarities end.

The real Economic Freedom Fighters’ account @EconFreedomZA, has just over 33 400 followers, which actually puts them in 4th place after Agang SA. The party with the most followers is in fact the ANC @MyANC_ with just over 94 300 followers.

So much for the party’s moment of shine then.
