FNB confirms more PlayStation 4s on the way

When FNB’s PlayStation 4 deal hit the streets earlier this week, it sold out within just 24 hours, leaving gamers on a tight budget (FNB’s deal offers its customers an interest-free instalment sale that’s cheaper than an outright purchase) disappointed.

There is a silver lining, however.

A source inside the bank this afternoon let us in on the fact that FNB will be getting “about a thousand” PlayStation 4 consoles to sell towards the end of February/early March at the latest. When asked for official comment, Kartik Mistry, the Head of Smart Devices at FNB Core banking Solutions said, “We are expecting to receive additional stock within the first quarter of the year but cannot confirm quantity at this stage.”

This confirms our source’s information in terms of general availability, but says nothing about how many consoles FNB will have available for purchase or what the pricing will be. And as there are still three weeks to go before the end of February, it’s anyone’s guess as to what the Rand will do and what effect that will have on the console’s FNB-specific pricing.

South African demand for the PlayStation 4 has been strong since its launch on the 13th of December 2013. So strong that the first two shipments of 10,000 units each sold out within weeks of arriving. If you haven’t managed to get your hands on one of the hot consoles yet, Ster Kinekor this afternoon confirmed via a press release that South African retailers will be receiving shipments of the console from tomorrow, February 7.

Unfortunately, there are no specifics in terms of volume, so get one while you can.
