Black Girls Code needs YOU for its next event

Black Girls Code is gearing up for its first set of workshops for 2014 next month in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Black Girls Code is a programme founded in the US by engineer and social entrepreneur, Kimberly Bryant, aimed at empowering young women of colour between the ages of 7 and 17 to learn about all things tech and coding and to pursue careers in the industry. It has spread to South Africa and now hosts 4 workshops in the country annually.

We went along to a few last year and they’re enormous fun and very rewarding ways to spend time in the company of talented and articulate young women who just haven’t had the breaks.

Black Girls Code is looking for male and female volunteers, regardless of your occupation, to assist with its first workshop in Joburg at the Wits University Chamber of Mines building in Braamfontein on March 15th.

A  webinar will also be hosted at least a week in advance for volunteers to get up to speed with the curriculum and schedule.

If you’re interested in volunteering, email Kelvin Smith, who’s co-ordinating training sessions.
