Non-DStv subscribers can now stream Box Office movies

You no longer need a DStv decoder, Explora or even an active Multichoice subscription to access the BoxOffice online movie rental service any more. That’s due to an announcement made this evening at a gala event held to launch Samsung’s new Galaxy S5 smartphone to the South African market.

This offer is not however without a caveat. While existing DStv subscribers will be able to access the service at the same price as before, namely R25 per movie rental, only just on their Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphones, non-subscribers will pay 20%, or R5, more per new release than subscribers do for the same content. Classic movies will cost R10 for both subscribers and non-subscribers alike.

As with accessing the service on a decoder, renters will have a 48 hour window in which to watch the title. There is no limitation on the number of times the title can be viewed in this window.

So what’s the big deal about the Galaxy S5 and BoxOffice?

Well, apart from the fact that the S5 launch event was chosen to reveal the news, Galaxy S5 owners will get the first movie they rent on BoxOffice for free the moment they have activated the service.
