Knott-Craig returns to Cell C but not as CEO

Former Cell C boss and chief instigator of the price wars in the mobile industry Alan Knott-Craig is returning to the operator’s board, following a minor stroke in November which landed him in hospital. He won’t be taking up his position as CEO, however.

Since Knott-Craig’s illness, Jose Dos Santos has been acting CEO, a state of affairs that will now become permanent. Knott-Craig does retain an executive role.

“Alan has made a remarkable recovery since he suffered a stroke in November last year and has officially been back at the company since 5 May 2014,” Cell C’s Chairman Mohammed Hariri says. “I am very pleased that Alan has agreed to take up this new role, as his wealth of experience in the telecommunications industry is an invaluable asset for the group at large.”
