Diablo III’s anniversary Legendary drop rate going permanent

Brilliant news, Diablo fans: the increased Legendary drop rate that Blizzard has allowed for the last week in celebration of the game’s two-year anniversary is to become permanent.

That’s the latest news out of the Blizzard message boards, where designer Travis Day posted the following:

“I come bearing exciting news. Due to the overwhelming popularity of our Anniversary buff we have decided to keep the increased Legendary drop rate once the Anniversary celebration ends. Once the buff is disabled tomorrow morning, you will find that the new base line drop rates for Legendary items will be the same as those you have all enjoyed for the last week.

Happy hunting and link the loot!”

As someone who has really enjoyed finding more Legendary items over the past week, I’m really happy at the news. My only concern is that Legendary items will become slightly less Legendary in the long term since common occurrence diminishes the value of any resource, but then since I haven’t exactly found Legendaries raining from the sky in my time with Diablo III this week, I’m pretty confident that Blizzard has struck the right balance.

While it wasn’t explicitly mentioned, the fact that Day didn’t say anything about double Rift Shards probably means that part of the “Anniversary Buff” won’t continue.

How do you feel about the news, and will the improved drop rate keep you playing Diablo III more than you were before the anniversary celebrations began? Let us know on the forum.
