Eleven-year-old girl Kickstarts an unbreakable cup

Lily Born’s grandfather suffers from Parkinson’s disease and as a result, he often accidentally knocks objects off from flat surfaces. To help her beloved grandfather, this bright 11-year-old came up with the idea to make a sturdy cup that her grandfather could use without spilling.

Lily created the first Kangaroo Cup by attaching moldable prototyping plastic legs to the bottom of her grandfather’s cup. A year later, Lily, with the help of her family, launched a project on Kickstarter to fund the production of ceramic Kangaroo Cups that they could distribute.

That project was successfully funded but Lily and her family realised the cup needed a bit of tweaking, so they’ve launched another project to fund the production of plastic Kangaroo Cups that are comfortable and less easy to break. The plastic Kangaroo Cup weighs only 255 grams, is microwave and dishwasher safe, break-resistant, stain-resistant & BPA-free.

The project is doing well on Kickstarter, with $15 162 of the $25 000 goal raised so far and 32 days left until funding closes.

“Just because you’re a kid, doesn’t mean you can’t do big and great things,” Lily says and she is definitely proof of that saying.
