Rumoured: Grand Theft Auto V next-gen announcement at E3 2014

This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) kicks off tomorrow, and ahead of the show itself is the usual assortment of rumours around games, companies and possible announcements. Polygon has rounded up many of those rumours, and I must admit that if even half of them turn out to be true, we’re in for a pretty fantastic gaming year.

Here are a few that have piqued our interest:

  • A release date for the PlayStation 4 remaster of The Last of Us might see the light of day at this year’s conference. It was confirmed earlier this year as a happening thing, but as yet nobody knows when it might actually come out. We’re hoping for July 2014.
  • Polygon says that Square Enix has registered two new games with Tomb Raider in the title: Rise of the Tomb Raider and Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. The latter may be a sequel to 2010’s excellent Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light top-down twin-stick shooter, while the former is likely the follow-up to 2013’s Tomb Raider, which Square Enix has confirmed they’re working on.
  • A next-gen console port of Grand Theft Auto V may make an appearance at this year’s E3. Of course, the game’s developer (Rockstar) has remained rather tight-lipped about it, but apparently it emerged during a recent investor call that a PS4/Xbox One game is in development at the studio, which may be the highly-anticipated port.
  • The guys behind the Souls series of games (Demon’s, Dark I & II) are apparently working on a PlayStation 4 exclusive game with Sony Computer Entertainment, codenamed Project Beast. It’s rumoured to be a Demon’s Souls sequel.

There are other rumours floating around, but these are definitely the ones that we’re most excited about here at htxt.africa. For the full list follow the Polygon link.

Expect much more news from the conference from tomorrow onwards.
