EFF promises to take questions from social media straight to house of parliament

Of all things we expected from the Economic Freedom Fighters’ first few months in parliament, we can honestly say this wasn’t one of them. The party has offered to raise any questions the public submits via Twitter to the South African parliament.

And if Twitter’s not your thing you can use Facebook or good old fashioned email too.

Depending on your point of view, it’s either one of the most cunning marketing tricks the party’s played yet for winning over moderates or a genuine attempt to open up access to parliamentary politics for the ordinary person. The EFF obviously offers it up as the latter, but if voters take up the offer its hard to see  how members could hope to deliver on the promise of asking dozens of questions without being barred from the house.

Or maybe that’s the idea? Who knows?

“The questions can be written in any of the official languages and [people] can ask any question relating to service delivery, corruption, maladministration and general negligence of the current government and their entities,” said EFF chief whip Floyd Shivambu.
