Download the iOS 8 update files here

So the iOS update has gone live but you and your mates have got a bunch of iPhone 5s or iPad Minis and don’t want to burn 1GB a time updating them?

The answer is to manually download the file and update the devices one by one.

Start by doing a full backup, either through iTunes or through iCloud.

Next, grab the appropriate file from this list:

Next fire up iTunes, connect your device to your PC with the required cable and find the ‘Check for Update’ button.

Click it, while holding the alt key down (it’s ctrl on a PC) This should cause a file dialog to be launched. This is the part where you navigate to the place you saved the iOS 8 update (it will have an ‘.ipsw’ file extension) and select it.

Now all that’s left to do is follow the on-screen instructions.
