A handful of unfortunate iPhones and iPads that have been updated to the latest iOS 8 version are exploding in people’s microwaves around the world. That’s all thanks to a hoax called “iOS 8 Wave” doing the rounds telling users that they can now charge their mobiles thanks to new technology that uses your microwave’s frequencies to power it up.
The promo poster for iOS 8 Wave looks genuine enough, with the same design and font Apple uses, which is perhaps why some people have fallen for it
Some have taken to social networks to post photos of their iPhones and iPads that have either melted or exploded as a result (some photos are old or fake though)
I tried using the new IOS 8 feature WAVE where you can charge your phone with a microwave, does not work @Apple pic.twitter.com/IWsWnVboUl

You would think people can figure out that microwaves don’t charge mobiles, but this clearly ins’t the case. To update to iOS 8 for free, you can pop into your nearest iStore and they will gladly assist you.
