Twitter’s new Audio Card will let you listen to music on your TL while you browse

Twitter is trying to get back into the business of providing users with musical content after the death of Twitter Music. The microblogging site is trialing a new way for you to listen to podcasts and your favourite artists’ tunes straight from your timeline without having to leave the app with new Audio Cards.

The company is partnering with various streaming services, the first being SoundCloud and iTunes, to bring Audio Cards to iOS and Android users.

A few artists such as David Guetta have already released podcasts and music that people can listen to via Audio Cards, but because it’s still in the testing stages, the feature may not be available for you to use just yet, as we saw when we tried it out.

Once Twitter Audio Cards do become widely available, you’ll be able to listen to audio by docking an Audio Card and simply tapping on play icon. Once its open, a full screen is displayed with the promotional artwork, a timeline for the audio, comments and links to other music – thereafter you can just minimise the screen and go back to your timeline to keep browsing.

“We’re just beginning to test the Audio Card and plan to make it available to more partners and creators in the future so that many more musical artists and creators will be able to share exclusive, in-the-moment audio to millions of listeners on Twitter,” Twitter says on its blog.

You can keep up with updates about Audio Cards on the @TwitterMusic account.
