Ubisoft launches Assassin’s Creed: Unity bug-fix live blog

So the internet has been awash with news of amusing and occasionally-annoying bugs in Assassin’s Creed: Unity, and of course publisher Ubisoft is scrambling to fix the game as quickly as possible.

Eurogamer writes that in the wake of the AC: Unity problems, the company took the unusual step of creating a “live blog” that tells fans in no uncertain terms what is happening behind the scenes with the game.

You can access the live blog here; it only has one update on it so far but it’s pretty candid. Ubisoft says of its most pressing concerns:

“We are currently working on our next update that will help address some of the specific issues some players are having, including:

  • Arno falling through the ground.
  • Game crashing when joining a co-op session.
  • Arno getting caught inside of hay carts.
  • Delay in reaching the main menu screen at game start”

They also mention that they’re looking into the frame rate issues experienced by PC gamers – even on high-end hardware – that has Steam reviews of the game abuzz with reports of poor performance, among other things.

They’ve also welcomed comments and feedback from gamers on the blog, so if you’re having issues you’d like addressed that’s probably the best place to voice them, as the developers are going to be looking at that page a lot in the coming days.

Another interesting development is Ubisoft’s other announcement that it will be offering ” open betas or other early access to some games” according to the Eurogamer article.  That should help to stress-test the online portions of their games, as well as gather feedback from a big enough sample group to ensure bugs and glitches don’t make their way into the final release.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity is out in South Africa today; we’re busy playing it and will have our own review up next week sometime. Our impressions so far are fairly good, despite a few obvious problems; but with a bit of luck Ubi will sort those out before long.
