Get organised with these 5 free Android calendar apps

With the new year now in full swing many of you will be looking for ways to get on top of your busy schedules. The good news is that your Android smartphone is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal to help reign in the madness that can creep into even the most organised of weeks.

Since we’re all about keeping our busy schedules in check at htxt.africa we thought now would be the perfect time to give you the run-down on our five favourite Android calendar apps.

aCalendar

aCalendar

aCalendar’s best feature is its fantastic navigation with a combination of vertical and horizontal swipes that move you around at maximum speed. Using horizontal swipes you move between day, week and month views with vertical swipes moving you forward or backward in time. aCalendar has a really robust widget which can be customised to show any of the available views as well as quick, one-touch event creation right from your home screen. A premium version unlocks a slew of extra features including S Pen support for Galaxy Note users along with some handy features like linking contacts with calendar entries.

Business Calendar 2

Business Calendar 2

No frills and no fuss makes Business Calendar 2 one of the best choices for those looking to get on with their day. The revamped version of the app brings material design and vastly improved tablet support that makes it ideal for those road warriors who live on larger displays. Calendars can be toggled quickly from the bottom of the app allowing you to remove unnecessary distractions in an instant. The ‘day slider’ allows you to quickly change your perspective to see how the next few days are panning out in seconds. Business Calendar 2’s vastly configurable widget means that you’ll never be left trying to figure out your next appointment.

Cal

Cal

The team behind task management app Any.do also has a calendar app called Cal which, unlike the other apps in this list, allows you to add and manage Exchange calendars in addition to Google calendars. Because of its close ties to Any.do, you can add tasks and have them appear in your calendar as scheduled events through the day. Each meeting allow you to add attendees, see who’s already replied and contact one or all of them right from inside the appointment and then navigate to it using your favourite GPS navigation app all with the touch of one button. Its clean interface looks perfectly at home with the new look and feel of Android 5.0 which is great for those who find themselves aesthetically inclined.

Google Calendar

Google Calendar

Google has come leaps and bounds with its productivity suite and one of the best apps made by the company from Mountain View is Google Calendar. While you can only access Google accounts, the fact that it comes from the makers of Android means that the newest version of Google Calendar follows the same clean design of Google’s other products. If you’re used to the web interface of Google Calendar then the app will feel immediately comfortable.

Sunrise Calendar App

Sunrise

Sunrise is a recent addition to our favourites here at htxt.africa with several members of the team having switched across to using it as their primary calendar solution. Sunrise syncs with Google, iCloud and Exchange calendars making it the most comprehensive calendar option on our list. It has a fantastically clean design, both in app as well as on the web, for when you have a larger display at your disposal. But by far its best feature is the ability to sign in with other web services like TripIt, Facebook and productivity apps like Trello and Asana to put all of your appointments, trips, birthdays and deadlines in one place.
