If you’re not cooking and don’t need to do any laundry, make sure your washing machine, dryer and stove are turned completely off as they’re guilty of using up the most electricity on your home. This not only puts strain on the national grid (leading to loadshedding) but could also be responsible for hiking up your electricity bill.

Eskom has a handy infographic illustrating how much power is used up by common lights and appliances in most homes around the country.

According to the infographic, laptops, lights, home entertainment systems, fridges and fans use up the least amount of electricity.
