Sci-Bono to put on laser show this weekend

Lasers are to geeks what catnip is to cats, so it is with great delight that I can share a laser light show is coming to the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Braamfontein this weekend.

It’s being put on by Dr. Stephen Ashworth from the University of East Anglia, and supported by the Royal Society of Chemistry, and aims to show how laser’s unique properties – which are different to that of more everyday light sources – can be “put to good use”.

There are two shows scheduled for Saturday the 28th of March, the first at 10am and the second at 1pm.

Sci-Bono will host another show on Friday the 27th of March, called Spectroscopy in a Suitcase, at 10am. There is space for 30 learners, who will have the opportunity to learn about spectroscopy through a guided hands-on experience.

Here’s a quick video explaining it:

The aim of the show is to encourage kids to study chemistry by exposing them to its awesomeness, as well as give them some insight into the careers chemistry could lead to.

If either of these sound like events you’d like to attend, or take your kids to, head over to the Sci-Bono website for more details.
