It might be old news that Takealot.com and Kalahari.com are merging, but as of today, Takealot is slowly doing away with products listed on Kalahari.
“On 20 April we will be delisting all products that have a supplier lead time from the Kalahari website. This means the selection of books, DVDs, music and games will be reduced significantly. If you can’t find the product you are looking for on Kalahari during this period we recommend checking takealot.com instead,” it advised on its website.
But what happens once the site has been shut down? You will be redirected to takealot.com, and hopefully you will still receive your order. “All outstanding Kalahari orders placed through the Kalahari website will be delivered by Kalahari.”
While the company is calling it a merger, others are calling it a take-over, and with the Kalahari branding disappearing forever, it is easy to see why. But Takealot insists that although the name will be no more, customers will still get the same experience.
“Our shared vision is to become the most customer centric online shopping destination in Africa. Regardless of the name we trade under, the most important aspect of our business is providing a truly great customer experience. The spirit that built Kalahari won’t disappear but moving forward the brand will be known as takealot.com.”
The merger between the two companies was approved in January this year.
”This is a necessary step in the evolution of online retail in South Africa and exciting news. The South African e-tail market is a highly dynamic one, and we foresee significant growth in the future” said Oliver Rippel, senior executive responsible for Kalahari, at the time.

Your Takealot account will use the same email login as your Kalahari account. To access your Takealot account, all you need to do is reset your password for Takealot by following four simple steps:
- From the home page, visit the login page on Takealot.
- In the ‘Kalahari Users’ section input your current Kalahari email address and click submit.
- You will be prompted to reset your password on Takealot. After submitting your email address you will be emailed a link to choose a new password.
- After choosing a new password and clicking “Submit”, you can log in with your email address and new password.
You will be able to access your account information via the “My Account” section of the Takealot website.
