Alright, beauty is not exactly synonymous with being left in the dark due to loadshedding yet this timelapse video we came across is actually quite a marvellous sight.

The 15-second video was uploaded onto YouTube by a user and photographer named Eric Nathan on Monday – it already has over 42 000 views.

Nathan’s website features many similar day and night timelapse videos, as well as breathtaking landscape and travel photos from around the world.

There’s no indication as to when and how long the video was shot, but you can see the effect of electricity being restored at the seven second mark.

In the meantime, we’re hoping there won’t be any widespread power cuts this long weekend as the latest updates from Eskom have been fairly positive.
