[INFOGRAPHIC] Project Isizwe’s free WiFi TV nears 6m views

South Africa’s capital city has been providing free WiFi access to many residents through Project Isizwe since December 2013, and so far it has been a massive success.

From starting out by providing connectivity to students on campus, to launching a free video-on-demand service, the project has grown from a couple of Free Internet Zone (FIZ) to almost 600 in April this year.

“Every South African citizen has a right to access good quality, affordable Internet, and that access should not be determined by the socio-economic conditions of the individual, but be based on the principles of social solidarity, equity and fairness,” Project Isizwe explains on its website.

To see just how successful it has been, all you have to do is have a look at the cool infographic supplied by Tshwane Free WiFi below. Did you know that over 14 million sessions have been logged so far? The most impressive stat, however, has to be the rapid growth of video views on WiFi TV – most of which, we’re told, are of City of Tshwane’s own information channels.
