While you can’t get Springbok Colours for eSports – yet – you can take part in the enthusiastic community that is growing at a competitive rate in our country, especially around the new Mortal Kombat X.
The Mortal Kombat Cup is a country wide tournament that has already had qualifiers in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. The combatants have been narrowed down to a roster of sixteen that will FIGHT! for some hefty prizes:
1st Place: R15 000 Cash Prize and PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Console
2nd Place: R10 000 Cash Prize and Mortal Kombat X Branded PS4 Console
3rd Place: R5 000 Cash Prize
The winner will also qualify for the Grand Final at the Japan Expo, taking place in France. Which means a South African could win a tournament at the Japan Expo, in France, playing an American game. The hippies were wrong; make games, not war.
The Mortal Kombat Cup finals take place on the 6th of June in Johannesburg, you can register as a spectator or watch it live on Twitch.
In the meantime, watch Mario have his skull broken.
