Attention all developers, designers and innovators: the annual MTN Business App of The Year Awards are back and entries have opened.
The awards recognise stand out ideas from individuals and organisations in the local mobile apps industry in various categories.
“The industry is moving towards a focus on content categories rather than OS platform,” the mobile network said. “The new structure allows us to compare lifestyle with lifestyle, or business with business.”
Previous winners include the likes of QR code mobile payment service, SnapScan, the FNB Banking app, DStv’s Supersport app and PriceCheck.
“The new genre-based categories are much closer aligned to the way that real app users evaluate apps when they choose to download them or not,” said Mandisa Ntloko, MTN Business’ head of marketing. “This means all apps are on an equal footing, so really any developer – big or small – could be a big winner this year.”
The change also means that any app whether developed in the last few months or years, can enter the competition.
The following are the six categories and sub-categories featured in this year’s awards:
1. Best Enterprise:
- Media and communications
- Ecommerce
- Business solutions and sales
- Utilities
- Navigation (and geo-location)
2. Best Consumer:
- Finance and banking
- Entertainment and gaming (including kids’ apps)
- Media and communications (including community and social)
- Lifestyle (including health, fitness and personal education)
- Productivity (includuing utilities)
- Creative (including photo and video)
3. Best enterprise development
4. Best breakthrough developer
5. Most innovative app
6. Wild card
Entries close June 26th, so make sure you submit yours as soon as possible on the MTN Business App of the Year Awards site.
The awards ceremony will take place on August 5th at The Urban Tree in Kramerville, Sandton.
