Ampion Venture Bus contest applications open with new routes added

The Ampion Venture Bus African startup competition is back and this year it has a few new additions, including five new routes, with one focussed solely to a women entrepreneurs.

For the past two years Ampion Venture Bus Africa has been traversing the African continent in search of young tech entrepreneurs and to help them launch startups that will develop solutions to a number of social issues on the continent.

This year’s Venture Bus journey will see five buses crossing 14 African countries in East, West, North and Southern Africa. Teams on the bus will compete in a seven-day program tour to develop entrepreneurial skills and create new ventures.

While on the Venture Bus, entrepreneurs are supported by experienced mentors from leading African and global tech centres.

Each tour’s finale is hosted at a tech conference such as DEMO Africa in Nigeria and AfricaCom in South Africa, where the tour participants will meet investors and well government ministers from the hosting countries. Forty new companies are expected to come out of the Venture Buses 2015.

The tour kicks off in West Africa in September starting in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and moving on to Cape Coast and Accra (both Ghana), Lomé (Togo) and Contonou (Benin).

The tour then hits Southern Africa from November 11th to 17th starting in Windhoek (Namibia) and on to Gaborone (Botswana), Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Beaufort (South Africa) ending off in Cape Town where the grand final will be hosted during AfricaCom.

A special female-only tour takes place in Tunisia from December 12th to 18th.

Five new routes have also been added as Morocco makes its debut on the Venture Bus with the grand final taking place at the Shape Africa Conference in Rabat.

Applications are open on the Ampion website and you’ll find all details and closing dates for each region there as well.

Senior mentors and investors are also welcome to join the bus, for more information email applications@ampion.org. You can also read about the success stories from last year’s Ampion Venture Bus Africa tours.
