YouTube now allows Tanzanians and Zimbabweans to make money off videos

YouTube has just opened up its platform to allow content creators in Tanzania and Zimbabwe to make money off the service.

YouTube says the launch of YouTube Tanzania and YouTube Zimbabwe also sees the introduction of more locally relevant content such as movies, music, lifestyle and entertainment commentary, ‘how-to’ inserts and short series.

“Given the creativity displayed by creators in previously launched countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda and South Africa, we look forward to the expected growth and to showcasing “Bongo” and “Zim” talent more broadly,” said Teju Ajani, YouTube Content Partnerships, Sub – Saharan Africa.

YouTube has also shared the following guidelines to help get creators set up with the monetisation process:

  • enable your YouTube account for the partner program
  • designate at least one video enabled for monetisation
  • visit YouTube creator academy for tips on setting up and growing a successful channel.
