Technology for Women in Business Awards to recognise female entrepreneurs

If you’re a female entrepreneur running a startup and have managed to successfully use technology in any way to advance your business, the Department of Small Business Development is looking for you.

The department will be hosting the (TWIB) Awards to recognise innovative thinking and application of tech among women in business and to encourage more entrepreneurs to turn to the technologies available to them to improve production and enhance the quality of products, “so that they can move from the sidelines to the mainstream of the economy,” the department says.

Startups and small businesses in the growth stages can enter the TWIB awards, while non-profit and non-governmental organisations as well as large businesses are however not eligible.

The following criteria are required for your business’ application to be accepted:

• Must be owned by a South African citizen
• Must have 51% female ownership
• Must be existing and operating for three years, with two years’ financial statements ending February 2015

To apply, download the application form which is available from the department’s website and send it through either via email, fax, or hand-delivery to the offices in Pretoria.

You have until tomorrow to submit your application for the TWIB Awards, we apologise for the short notice on our side as we only caught wind of the news about the very recently.
