Lauren Beukes gets her own DC Comics graphic novel

‘Broken Monsters’ author Lauren Beukes, one of our all-time favourite writers, is about to make the jump to the comic book medium. We don’t know how we missed this; perhaps the news was drowned out by the huge hubbub in San Diego with Comic-Con last weekend.

DC Comics imprint Vertigo announced that Beukes will be getting her very own horror graphic novel, called ‘Survivors’ Club’. The comic book, created together with Dale Halvorsen and Ryan Kelly, forms part of Vertigo’s new line-up starting in October.

‘Survivors’ Club’ will be released in the second week of October, while one other title from the new line-up will be released weekly for 12 consecutive weeks.

“I am super-stoked to finally, finally, finally announce that Dale Halvorsen, Ryan Kelly and I are bringing out an original creator-owned horror comic called Survivor’s Club for Vertigo (part of DC Comics). It’s part of their hot new Fall line-up announced at San Diego Comic Con,” Beukes wrote on her website.

The plot for the comic is fairly simply, as Beukes states: “What if the 80s horror movies were real? And where are those kids today?”

Co-creator Halvorsen explained a bit further: “I’d been watching Child’s Play and I started wondering what happened to those kids from all the 80s horror movies after the credits rolled. The stuff they’ve seen would probably traumatise them for the rest of their lives. That would mess you up. And what if there was no escape from their dark pasts?”

Its sounds amazing, and hopefully this will be the first step in Hollywood taking notice. Who know, we might see a Beukes horror film soon?
