Destiny ditches Dinklebot in favour of Nolan North

In what became a bit of a running joke, Bungie’s Destiny game features a helpful little flying robot (the Ghost) that guides players across maps and also serves as a bit of a narrator.

The problem with the Ghost was that it was voiced by Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, in what many called a phoned-in performance. It sounded forced, and if Dinklage was bored while recording it.

Well, Bungie has certainly decided that it doesn’t want one of the game’s most-central characters to be the butt of an on-going joke, so it has decided to get rid of Dinklebot – in favour of recasting him with the voice of Nolan North for the game’s Taken King DLC.

If you are not familiar with North’s work, have a look at his extensive voice acting resume sheet. In short, he has voiced characters for Uncharted, Call of Duty, Batman, Dying Light and Saint’s Rows – and that is only this year.

“I was really excited to do this role. You want to give him as much personality as the world will allow, without making it unbelievable. There’s a fine line to walk there, and I think we found it,” he told Game Informer.

You won’t have to worry about getting two different voices if you happen to start a new character, as North has recorded all of the original lines originally set down by Dinklage.

“They really wanted me to put my stamp on it,” North explainded. “They let me bring what I wanted to the role. You have to give it your own spin. For that reason, I specifically said I didn’t want to hear anything that someone else had done, so that I didn’t have some preconceived notion of what it has to be. Instead, I just gave it my stamp, and let them direct me accordingly.”
