Tinder says it ‘overreacted’ in its rant about Vanity Fair’s article

If you ever needed further proof that losing one’s temper on social media is really, really bad idea, simply cast an eye at the Tweets posted by Tinder’s Twitter account yesterday.

If you missed it, the dating app’s Twitter account went nuclear in response to an article in Vanity Fair entitled Twitter and the dawn of the ‘Dating Apocalypse’, posting a stream of angry tweets aimed at the author of the piece, Nancy Jo Sales.

Now, admittedly, the article doesn’t portray Tinder in the best possible terms; its thrust seems to be that romance in the modern dating scene is doomed and dating apps like Tinder – and OKCupid and Happning are partially to blame for this.

Tinder took exception to the article and proceeded to lay out its concerns in 30+ tweet rant. Some of the highlights include:

In the cold light of day, it seems, the folks over at Tinder realised that taking to social media perhaps wasn’t the best strategy.

“We have a passionate team that truly believes in Tinder,” the app said in a statement to Gawker.  “While reading a recent Vanity Fair article about today’s dating culture, we were saddened to see that the article didn’t touch upon the positive experiences that the majority of our users encounter daily.”

“Our intention was to highlight the many statistics and amazing stories that are sometimes left unpublished, and, in doing so, we overreacted.”

So the next time you lose your temper, learn from the mistake made by Tinder. Take a couple of deep breaths and step away from the keyboard…
