Ashley Madison CEO resigns

Ashley Madison‘s CEO Noel Biderman has resigned his position after hackers posted a third collection of stolen data online. According to the Guardian, the latest leak appears to contains emails stolen from Biderman’s personal Gmail account.

“Effective today, Noel Biderman, in mutual agreement with the company, is stepping down as Chief Executive Officer of Avid Life Media Inc (ALM) and is no longer with the company,” ALM announced in a statement. “Until the appointment of a new CEO, the company will be led by the existing senior management team.”

“We are actively adjusting to the attack on our business and members’ privacy by criminals. We will continue to provide access to our unique platforms for our worldwide members,” the statement said. “We are actively cooperating with international law enforcement in an effort to bring those responsible for the theft of proprietary member and business information to justice.”

It’s been a rough couple of months for Ashley Madison, the dating site targeted at people in long term relationships, and ALM. In July, a group of hackers operating under the name Impact Team claimed to have comprehensively hacked the site and threatened to release the data on its users unless ALM took Ashley Madison offline. A month later, Impact Team made good on its threat, releasing the data on the site’s millions of users, internal emails and the source code for both the site and its companion app.

In the last couple of week, ALM has found itself staring down the barrel of several lawsuits and information has surfaced that Ashley Madison’s CTO may have tried to hack rival sites.
