DStv Explora software update adds new features

Dstv’s Explora PVR decoder is getting a rather nifty software update on 15 September, and with it comes a host of new features.

According to a post on Dstv’s forums, the update will be downloaded automatically to all active decoders, and will introduce improvements which will help users navigate and find content better.

On DStv Catch Up

  • A separate tab for weekly recommendations
  • Additional categories under the different genres arranged by Newest, Last Chance, 1st Episode and A-Z.

On connected DStv Exploras

  • Option to download content in SD or HD
  • Ability to schedule downloads for specific times
  • A new history screen and a ready to watch option

Dstv also explained that the DMX DJ will also get a refresh to ensure song information is loaded quicker.

“When we launched the DStv Explora in 2013, we promised that we will continue to build on this platform to give our customers the best entertainment experience possible. These additional improvements fulfil that promise. We’ll continue to explore further ways to enhance the Explora,” said Nyiko Shiburi, GM Consumer Devices, MultiChoice.

The software update comes courtesy of the decoder’s ability to connect to the internet, which was announced by Dstv in November last year.

Just in case you might have missed it, we reviewed the Explora back in November 2013.
