Fallout 4′ s first patch has arrived for PC

Bethesda has dropped the first patch for its sprawling post-apocalyptic open world RPG. The patch is in beta for the time being and is available for PC players who have opted in to beta updates.

The patch notes are rather vague with Bethesda stating that they have made “general memory and stability improvements”. Over on the Bethesda’s Beta forum there are a number of complaints regarding everything from SLI configurations not working correctly, issues with keyboard setups and loading saves, however none of these are directly addressed in the patch notes.

One issue which saw players who jumped into water before trying to reload a save game and crashing the game has been fixed and there’s fix for the Launcher not saving the God Ray Quality setting correctly.

A number of bugs that affected missions where also patched including:

  • Fixed an issue where equipped weapons become locked after completing Reunions
  • Fixed issue where the quest When Freedom Calls would not complete
  • Fixed a bug where during the quest Confidence Man, a player’s health would regenerate continuously

There is some good news; number pad keys can now be used for remapping and remapping the Activate key now works when using Quick Containers.

According to Bethesda patch 1.2.33 is a work in progress but it has seemingly still not addressed a number of issues that crash the game out right.

Should you be desperate for a fix, gamers can opt-in to the beta to get these patches first but be warned, they may not always fix problems outright and you may end up with more bugs than you would like.

To get into the beta you need to right click on Fallout 4 in your Steam Library, select Properties and then click the Betas tab. Once in Betas look for the “Select the beta you would like to opt into” and select “beta – Beta Update” from the drop down menu, click Close and Steam should start downloading the 93.7MB patch.
