Square Enix confirms Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a multi-part series

It’s been something of a bumper couple of days for Final Fantasy fans.

First, they were treated to a new Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer at the weekend. Today, comes the news that the overhaul could see the game becoming a multi-part series.

The remake of the popular game, which first graced shelves in 1997, was announced at E3 earlier this year much to the delight of ardent fans. A new trailer showcasing the combat and CGI was revealed at the weekend during the Playstation Experience in San Francisco.

Fans will be pleased to hear that despite the trailer being incredibly action packed trailer, Square Enix has said that the gameplay won’t be entirely action based and will incorporate real-time orientated combat as well.

Regarding the multi-part series, according to character designer Tetsuya Nomura, who spoke to Kotaku, there are elements that would have needed to be cut out or things that Square Enix wouldn’t have been able to add if Final Fantasy VII Remake was to be put into one release.

Nomura added, “we decided to divide it up, concluding that we have to do a remake that’s fully packed with content”.

Releasing the game as separate parts could mean that we get to see the first part of the game sooner than we would have had to wait for the full game.

That being said, there are no details as to the pricing or the lead time between “episodes” so we would suggest holding off on the pre-order until more information is revealed.
