Marvel shows off Doctor Strange featurette and concept art

We have to confess that when news first surfaced about Marvel’s forthcoming Doctor Strange film, we weren’t exactly champing at the bit for its arrival.

This all changed when htxt.africa attended Disney’s showcase in Johannesburg earlier this year; the footage and concept art shown off in Disney’s presentation for Doctor Strange, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Marvel’s best-know caped sorcerer, looked incredibly dark and mysterious.

The only problem we had wandering away from the showcase was that we didn’t have any footage to upload to give our readers a taste of what we’d seen.

This changed today as Marvel have plonked a Doctor Strange featurette on YouTube featuring concept art and a couple of the film’s producers who tell fans what they can expect.

Director Scott Derrickson says that Doctor Strange will be a “mind-trip action film”, which seems to sit nicely with the dark and rather disturbing imagery released to promote the film. Perhaps the seal on its borderline horror genre leanings is encapsulated in its release date. Unlike most Marvel films that tend to swagger into the movie houses in summer, Doctor Strange is set to grace cinemas shortly after Halloween on November 4th next year.

There’s no word on any plot details at the moment but we do know that Chiwetel Ejiofor will be playing the good Doctor’s arch nemesis Baron Mordo and the rest of the cast includes the likes of Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton and Mads Mikkelsen – whom we hope and pray will be playing Dormammu.

Yes, we want Hannibal to play the demon enemy of Doctor Strange. Please.
