[HOW TO] Check where you’re registered to vote in the 2016 municipal elections

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) today launched the 2016 Municipal Elections at the Gallagher Conference Centre. If you’re not sure whether or not you’re registered to vote in the correct area, we’ve found an easy-to-use tool to help you.

The DA has created an online portal to help check if you’re registered, where you’re registered (if you are) and where you should register if you’re registered in an area where you no longer live.

This comes in handy for people who’ve moved since the last municipal elections and would like to take part.

All you need is your ID number and the name of the neighbourhood you live in.

You can also opt to have a reminder SMS sent to your phone to notify you when registration opens on the weekend of the 5th and 6th of March, which are the official registration dates announced by the IEC.

To register, you’ll need your green ID book, Smart Card or valid Temporary Identity Certificate.

The IEC said there will be 22 600 voting stations made available to service voters on a yet-to-be-announced date.
